What is Traction Alopecia? Traction Alopecia is a form of hair loss in which mechanical damage by constant or repeated pulling and tugging on hair. This type of hair loss is common among people with skin of color due to popular hairstyles, although it may be seen among all ethnic groups and ages. As the condition progresses, the main symptoms are bumps and small patches of missing or broken hairs throughout the scalp. To prevent traction alopecia, wear your hair down and avoid tight styles that tug on your hair, especially overnight.
