MAXIMIZING HAIR LOSS TREATMENT

 HAIR AND SCALP HYGIENE

         Q.    Have you been shampooing with gasoline or dishwashing detergent?

A.     Most likely!  Laurimide DEA is used in a shampoo to strip debris and add lather.  It is also used in dishwashing detergent.  If a person is experiencing hair loss or other scalp problems, it is advisable to avoid chemicals in shampoos such as:

1)      Sodium laurel, laureate or laureth sulfate (SLS) sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) or ammonium laurel or laureth sulfate which have 7 day ½ lives and damage follicles by acting as a degreasing agent

2)      Nitrosol diethelanolamine (DEA) or cocamide DEA

3)      Alpha hydroxy acids – glycolic, lactic or malic acids

4)      Ethelene oxide

5)      Isopropyl alcohol

6)      Mineral oil

These chemicals are found in over 95% of all commercial shampoos.  There is evidence that these chemicals actually corrode the hair follicle and impair the ability of hair to grow.  SLS seems to cause a dramatic decline in the hair growth cycle, prolonging the hair loss phase (normally three months) by a factor of eight.  Simply removing the corrosive and irritating effects of these ingredients begins to restore the healthy function of the hair follicle.

 Q.    What is seborrhea and dandruff?

A.     Organic waste is the bi-product of sebaceous gland secretions and natural regeneration of skin cells.  When this waste is not regularly cleaned away the result is seborrhea.  This can occur in varying degrees of intensity according to the person affected, seasons of the year and types of occupation.  Levels of secretion differ among individuals.  When seborrhea is neglected, it can lead to dermatitis, dandruff, and often to intense itching by blocking the hair follicle.  Dandruff is always a sign of a diseased scalp and is the most frequent symptom of inflammation called seborrhiec dermatitis.

 Q.    Are scalp treatments beneficial in protecting baldness and stimulating regrowth?

A.     Treatments may accomplish stopping further loss and itching, removal of dandruff and better hair.  Some drugs (only Minoxidil and Propecia) have shown clinical efficacy in promoting regrowth.

 Q.    What types of scalp treatments do you use?

A.     Home treatment consists of:

1)      Scalp Scripts 12% Dexpanthenol which has been shown to improve stratum corneum hydration and reduce transepidermal water loss.  Topical Dexpanthenol stabilizes the skin barrier function.

2)      Scalp Scripts Shampoo

3)      Scalp Scripts Vitamin Plus Conditioner

In clinic treatments utilize home therapy Deep Scalp Cleansing, Ionization and Laser Therapy.

 Q.    What is HLCC’s philosophy on hair loss?

A.  We believe it is imperative to start off with a healthy scalp and healthy hair.     Build-up on the scalp blocks penetration of topical products (like Minoxidil) from getting to the follicle.  Therefore, it is necessary to first cleanse the scalp with Dexpanthenol, then use a Scalp Scripts SLS & DEA free Shampoo with Scalp Scripts Vitamin Plus Conditioner.  It is also important to take a DHT blocker or inhibitor like Herbal Alternative to Propecia (male or female) or Finasteride (only male).  Next, we recommend topical Minoxidil (of varying strengths 2-15%) sometimes mixed with other topical products (Finasteride, Saw Palmetto, Spironolactone).  Therefore our philosophy is: First cleanse the scalp and hair, then add a DHT blocker, a topical product and finally add Laser.  This regimen combats hair loss from many different mechanisms.  Because of the high alcohol content Minoxidil sometimes causes irritation. Finally, adding Laser treatment is a great adjunct to home therapy. Recent Clinical Trials by a hair laser company suggests that more than 90% of users achieve some positive benefits and results. "In general, about 45% of users see noticeable indications of benefits from use of the laser within the first 6 weeks," according to Dr. Martin Unger, the company's Medical Director  "Another 45% realize indications from 6 to 12 weeks and 5% see subtle improvements after 12 weeks.

How do we make Minoxidil Better???

MAKING MINOXIDIL BETTER

Minoxidil has been FDA proven to increase hair growth. Many people do not experience maximum benefit. Why?

Product preparation- Minoxidil available over the counter is approximately 60% by volume alcohol, which acts as a drying agent. When it dries on the hair, it weakens the shaft and can’t be absorbed. Because of the high alcohol content; dry, brittle, damaged hair is created that doesn’t repair itself. Hair above the scalp is not living tissue and cannot be repaired once it is damaged.

Poor Education (Doctors and Patients)- Pharmacia & Upjohn provided no means of patient monitoring for Minoxidil effectiveness.  The result of this is many patients are unable to evaluate results and are inclined to discontinue the use of Minoxidil. At HLCC, you'll receive a monthly check up and monitoring plan free. This includes all future check ups (we like to see you every 1 to 2 months), digital pictures and microscopic pictures and analysis and scalp evaluations. We want you to know exactly and scientifically how your treatments are working so together we can adjust your treatment plan to how you respond to treatments (everybody responds a little differently). We then can adjust your plan to you hair loss needs, goals and budget. We offer free monthly scientific checkups and digital

 How can we improve Minoxidil?

 1)      Mix with carrier solution. The our carrier lotion is the result of years of research and development. The carrier maintains Minoxidil in a liquid state longer allowing it to penetrate down into the follicle where it will have the maximum effect on the growth of the hair shaft. Use of the carrier lotion allows you to use less minoxidil to achieve a larger effective dosage level by converting it into a lotion that is more easily absorbed. Pharmacia & Upjohn Company recommends using 2ml of Minoxidil daily but because of the improved delivery system, the amount of Minoxidil needed was significantly reduced (by 50%) to 1ml daily.

How to use: Mix 30ml of carrier with 30ml of minoxidil and shake to mix.

Application (Ineffective Distribution) - Pharmacia & Upjohn failed to recognize the importance of intrafollicular drug therapy.  The result of this is that they provided application methods that were not suited to this new type of therapy.  The key to the carrier is the unique method of application.  The use of the Scalp Scripts Shampoo, Carrier Lotion, and Dexpanthenol (12%) allows Minoxidil to reach the hair follicle, making it much more likely to obtain the desired result of hair growth.

Combining with Topical Tretoin  0.025% - “Dr. Bazzano, who is an adjunct associate in dermatology at Tulane Universary School of Medicine, believes the two agents work synergistically. Retinoids can initiate cell growth and differentiation not stimulated by Minoxidil. Likewise, Minoxidil can produce mitogenic and vasodilatory action not obtained with the retinoids, said Dr. Bazzano, who has a doctorate in biochemistry. Since retinoic acid has been shown to increase percutaneous absorption, it is possible that the increased absorption may have positively affected the amount of Minoxidil reaching the hair follicle.”1

Increasing concentration of Minoxidil & adding other antiandrogens

§         Minoxidil now available in 10% solution and 15% cream*

§         Add Topical Saw Palmetto

§         Add Topical Progesterone*

§         Add Topical Spironolactone*

§         Add Topical Finasteride*

 STEPS TO IMPROVED HAIR CARE

      1.      Use Dexpanthenol 12% - 5 minutes before shampooing.

2.      Shampoo with Scalp Scripts using a quarter size amounts of shampoo and repeat if necessary.

3.      Apply 1cc of Minoxidil with Carrier Lotion to dry scalp after shower and massage in gently.

4.      Style hair and go.
