Joey Grangione was a manly man. He did not use conditioner in his hair. He did not get his nails done. He did not go to salons like some guys he knew. He was a T-shirt and Levi's jeans wearing, Marlboro cigarette-smoking, hammer-banging, work boot wearing, rock & roll music type of guy. The last person you'd think to suffer from hair loss or seek out hair loss treatments. But one day he found himself looking in the mirror from all angles because something was wrong with his hair all of a sudden. It was so much thinner! And it wasn't where it used to be!
So he called his cousin Dominic who used to have thinning hair and a bald spot. He used to have it but he didn't anymore, so Joey thought he would be the perfect person to help him jumpstart his hair loss treatment. Dominic gave him some doctor's numbers and said to go get checked out to make sure he didn't "have something." After some tests and some physical examinations of his head and hair the doctor pronounced his diagnosis as Male Pattern Baldness and told him about his hair loss treatment options. First up was Propecia. "I call this vitamin P," said the doctor, "because you take it every day for stronger hair!" Propecia is the only FDA-approved pharmaceutical oral treatment prescribed to slow hair loss because it is taken internally to block production of the hormone DHT, which attacks follicles and causes them to shrink. The doctor told him it could slow hair loss as long as he kept taking it. Then he explained that Propecia works even better in conjunction with laser hair therapy. The doc explained that laser hair therapy works as a hair loss treatment by stimulating follicles on the outside and improving blood-flow and that is also proven as a hair loss treatment. So if you had a medication working on the inside to block what is causing the follicles to die and something like laser hair therapy working on the outside to stimulate follicles into healthy growth it's like a double-whammy of hair loss treatment.
So Joey made an appointment with a hair loss treatment clinic in town. But when he got there and took one look at the powerful, standing laser hair treatment unit he though "Uh-uh - I am NOT sitting there under that like some woman with curlers on." But then, the hair loss treatment specialist whipped out a hand-held unit called a laser comb that Joey could use at home. Now that was more like it! He picked up the laser comb and the hair loss treatment specialist showed him how to apply laser hair treatments to himself using the laser comb. It was easy, it was private, and it was only 20-30 minutes per day a few times per week. She told him to take the Propecia and use the laser comb for about three months before he would see results, though, because the hair needed time to regenerate into an active growth stage, come out of his scalp and be a noticeable, length again. She warned him not to give up prematurely, because she could see Joey was an impatient type of guy, because laser hair therapy and Propecia only work as long as you keep using them. If you stop, she warned that any progress that had been made toward hair re-growth would revert back to whatever his hair loss would have been had he not treated it at all! Joey promised to behave himself, stick to the program and to give the hair loss treatments time to work - and he was happy that nobody had to know about it. It was his business and he was not going to let hair loss of any kind get in his way!
