Laser Hair Therapy - An Effective Hair Loss Treatment for Traction Alopecia

Lucy had always been an active girl and now, as a 25-year old full-time aerobics and yoga instructor at her local fitness center she was busier, and more active than ever. She never gave a second thought to her hair, which she swooped up every day into a ponytail (sometimes a tight bun depending on the day's classes) high and tight on the crown of her head to keep it out of her way. One of her favorite parts of each day was when she let her hair down from the ponytail after the day's classes and shook her head out. Sometimes she got headaches or her head was a little sore but she thought she was just tired. She never gave her hair a second thought, that is, until one day she noticed more fuzzy little hairs around her hairline than usual, and what were all those little bumps that looked like acne? She thought the whole thing looked gross and decided a trip to the dermatologist was in order. She had no idea that hair loss treatment was going to be her next step!

The dermatologist explained to Lucy that she was losing hair and causing stress to her follicles all around her hairline and in the spot high on her head where she wore her ponytail every day. She put her hand up to feel the spot, and sure enough, the hair there did feel thinner and she could feel the fuzz of new growth from hairs that had been pulled out by the tight ponytail! He told her she had cased traction alopecia, a treatable hair loss condition where follicles can get physically stressed to the point of death and infection just by wearing a tight hairstyle! The dermatologist explained that she would need to immediately change her ponytail habit as the first step in her hair loss treatment plan. He also prescribed an antibiotic for the little acne-like pimples caused by the hairs being pulled so tight. Then he told Lucy about a hair loss treatment called laser hair therapy and he suggested that she buy a laser comb to use at home.

For Lucy's laser hair therapy program, the dermatologist referred her to a local hair loss treatment clinic where a specialist could explain the benefits of laser hair therapy, which Lucy learned could stimulate blood flow to her hair follicles and help them jump-start into active growing again. Lucy learned that once hair follicles die you can't bring them back to like, but if they are still alive you can coax them back into active growth through a hair loss treatment such as laser hair therapy. In her situation, once the stress of the tight hairstyle and the resulting infection was removed, laser hair therapy could do its work. Lucy's hair loss treatment specialist suggested she come in twice per week for in-studio laser hair therapy, which is usually a stronger laser treatment than using the at-home laser comb. Since she wanted her hair loss treatment to work as quickly as possible, she never missed an appointment and even got a laser comb to use at home. Right away the headaches and soreness on her head subsided as soon as she stopped the ponytails, but after about three weeks of hair loss treatment using laser hair therapy both at-home with her laser comb and in the clinic, she could see new hair sprouting all around her hairline. The hair loss treatment specialist said it was a pleasure to work with a client whose condition was so easily and successfully treatable when so many other people really live with long-term hair loss treatment for the rest of their lives. Lucy was thrilled with her laser hair therapy result. Now Lucy's biggest problem was how to wear her hair differently every day at work!
